Co-op City Resident Arrested For Ringing Door Bells And Trespassing In Several Buildings Overnight

Co-op City Public Safety detectives detained, questioned and arrested a young Co-op City man who was recently found to be trespassing in buildings throughout the community during late and overnight hours and ringing the front door bells of several homes, many times as late as 2, 3 or 4 a.m.

The strange, troubling and persistent behavior raised the alarm of several Coop City residents who took to social media to alert other residents and authorities to the disturbing trend. Some residents even posted photos online and in the buildings of the suspect taken from the front door peep hole of their homes in an attempt to identify the man responsible for the strange and erratic behavior. The behavior took place in random buildings throughout the community.

Detectives zeroed in on the identity of the suspect last week and questioned him on the afternoon of April 26, 2017 before arresting him and charging him with criminal trespassing, a class A misdemeanor.

His actions in the community did not rise to the level of a felony, but the strange behavior had several residents on edge judging from numerous facebook posts.

The Public Safety detectives explained that the suspect is known to the department, largely for a suspected history of drug use. One detective said that when the suspect was questioned, he admitted to using "K-2" - a synthetic street drug notorious for eliciting erratic behavior in its users. The suspect is described as being someone who regularly works out and is very strong. One investigator said the combination of strength and the prevalent use of these types of synthetic drugs is a troubling combination.

The suspect, described as being in his early 20s, has prior arrests related to drug use here, according to the investigating detectives. The arrest last week was made by Co-op City Public Safety Detectives E. Rodriguez and J. Lugo.
