Co-op City produces it's own electricity for use by all Co-op City residents. There is no reliance on Con Edison in Co-op City except in case of emergencies or failure. The Co-op City Power Plant Department is in charge of Co-op City power electric operations.
The Co-op City Power Plant Department is responsible for operating the central plant safely and efficiently while providing heat, hot water, air conditioning and electrical distribution to all Co-op City buildings. The Co-op City Power Plant department maintains and repairs all power plant equipment, building pump room equipment, high voltage electrical distribution and garage lighting.
