I see more and more dogs in our community, a community that for many, many years has been free from dog feces. Sadly, that is no longer the case. On more than one occasion, I have seen multiple piles of dog feces while walking around the community. While there are some honest, eligible people in Co-op City who actually need and qualify for pet assistance, there are too many out there who are dishonest and unethical in their quest to be dog owners. This is not an issue of whether or not I like dogs. I do. But this is a quality of life issue. This is not an allegation about dog feces littering our Green Way and sidewalks, it is a fact. Nor is this an allegation about dishonest people who have dogs, but don’t actually qualify to have them, it is a fact. Riverbay needs to step up to the plate and weed out those dishonest residents who are, in fact, not eligible to have a dog. Perhaps residents should reapply yearly and be required to resubmit “medical†documents.
